Process Innovation & Chrome Refining

Our R&D focus is on chrome refining — increasing chromium content while reducing unwanted elements to specified levels — enabling the production of Chrome Metal and specialised chrome-based materials with controlled chemistry and particle sizing.

Indiano Chrome's R&D is driven by a simple objective: Higher purity. Controlled chemistry. Consistent performance. Not every application requires conventional ferro chrome — some industries demand much higher chromium purity and tightly controlled levels of carbon and other impurities. Our refining and purification work addresses exactly that.

Our Focus

From Ferro Alloy to High-Purity Chrome

Not every application requires conventional ferro chrome. Some industries demand much higher chromium purity and tightly controlled levels of carbon and other impurities.

For these applications, chrome-bearing materials undergo further processing and refining. Through controlled metallurgical processes, the desired chromium content is increased while unwanted elements are reduced to specified levels.

This enables the production of Chrome Metal and specialised chrome-based materials with controlled chemistry and particle sizing for demanding applications.

Why It Matters

The Value of High Purity

High-purity chrome materials are particularly valuable where even small variations in chemistry can influence the performance of the final alloy or component.

Consistent Performance

Controlled chemistry ensures predictable behaviour in demanding applications — from stainless steel to superalloys.

Precision Chemistry

Small variations in composition can influence performance — refining addresses this at the source.

Demanding Applications

Where conventional ferro chrome is not sufficient, high-purity chrome metal supports advanced applications.

India-First Benchmarks

Our work has delivered India's first Ultra Low Carbon Ferro Chrome (2022) and India's first 99% purity Chrome Metal (2026).

Frequently Asked Questions

R&D and Innovation

What does Indiano Chrome's R&D focus on?

Indiano Chrome's R&D focuses on chrome refining — increasing chromium content and reducing unwanted elements to specified levels — to produce high-purity Chrome Metal and specialised chrome-based materials with controlled chemistry and particle sizing.

What is India's first Ultra Low Carbon Ferro Chrome?

Indiano Chrome achieved India's first Ultra Low Carbon Ferro Chrome in 2022, contributing to lower-carbon steelmaking. ULC FeCr is used where tight carbon limits are required in the final steel grade.

What is India's first 99% purity Chrome Metal?

Indiano Chrome achieved India's first 99% purity Chrome Metal in 2026, setting a new benchmark for high-purity chrome production. The Indi-Chrome Metal 001 has Cr 99% Min and C 0.01% Max.

Why is high-purity chrome important?

High-purity chrome materials are particularly valuable where even small variations in chemistry can influence the performance of the final alloy or component. Refining enables controlled chemistry and consistent performance in demanding applications.

Can chemistry and sizing be customized?

Yes. Indicative specifications are shown in the product portfolio. Customized chemistry and sizing can be supplied subject to mutual technical agreement. Contact our technical team to discuss your specific requirements.
